Zoltán Kammerer won the by-election in Göd

Gödön is the three-time Olympic champion Zoltán Kammerer was elected mayor. In the by-election held on Sunday, the independent Kammerer won with almost 58 percent after counting nearly half of the votes alongside two rival candidates.

Behind Kammerer Lajos László Szilágyithe candidate of the Kapu CIKK Association got 30 percent, and the independent candidate András Rataj got 13 percent.

Kammerer ran as an independent, but Fidesz stood behind him, which did not field a candidate in its own party colors.

Csaba Balogh, the city’s former opposition mayor resigned in February. He justified his decision by saying that his position was completely vacated by the government, Fidesz and the pseudo-opposition board majority collaborating with them. The interim local government election was announced by the National Electoral Office for May 14.

In March, it was revealed that the kayaker living in Gödö is running for the vacant post.
