A rare zombie disease that targets deer has occurred in two Canadian provinces.

A rare disease that affects deer in Canada is currently spreading rapidly. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is found in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control, the CWD virus is endemic to deer and its species, and the animal is at risk of contracting the disease if not treated or vaccinated.

Experts warn that the disease could spread to humans if infected deer eat the meat.

Predators in particular are at risk of contracting the disease. However, the Center for Disease Control said that no data was available on whether the disease could affect humans. The Canadian Department of Health has advised people not to hunt any deer that may show signs of disease in this environment.

Experts say the CWD-infected animal loses self-control and runs with brain damage. Hence the disease is also commonly known as Zombie Disease. Animals with CWD have been shown to have higher salivary glands, perform strange functions, have excessive urination, and lose weight.

The disease was first diagnosed in the United States in 1960. Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in 26 provinces, including Corolla, Normesca and Kansas.
