Omalur: On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, the soft tennis competition for men and women at the Salem zone level for the Chief Minister’s Cup started yesterday in Omalur. School and college students from Salem, Coimbatore, Namakkal, Erode and Tirupur districts participated in it.
Sangeetha inaugurated the Omalur DSP. On the first day, Karvil Selvaraj, Balasurya and Rohit from Coimbatore bagged the top three positions in the singles competition for school students. In the doubles category, Coimbatore Balasurya-Rakeskumar, Garvin Selvaraj-AlancreeseJoel, and Tirupur Vickeeth-Sivaprasad took the top three positions respectively.
In the singles category for college students, Kovai Bhupathi, Krithik Kalyan and Akhilesh bagged three places respectively. Akhilesh-Darun Vikram, Bhupathi-Krithik Kalyan and Tirupur Siddharth-Vishnuprakash got three places in doubles category respectively.
Yesterday, Tirupur Saileswari, Erode Vinothini and Tirupur Srishastaini won the top three positions in the school girls’ singles competition. In the doubles category, Srishastaini-Saileswari, Taksita-Laksatha from Erode and Sarojini-Nityashree pairs won three places respectively.
Sreesanjana, Mridulla Mahalakshmi and Sruthi Lakshunan from Coimbatore bagged the top three positions in the singles competition held for college girls. In the doubles category, Sruthi Lakshmanan – Mridulla Mahalakshmi from Coimbatore, Nisha – Sowmiasree from Salem, and Kaviasree – Kavyanjali from Tirupur got the top three positions respectively. All of them have qualified for the state tournament to be held in Chennai.
