When buying a ticket at the Frankfurt Zoo, a nature conservation euro is due – without visitors being informed of this. A customer is now complaining.
Frankfurt – Since 2021, the Frankfurt Zoo has been involved in the “Nature Conservation Euro”, a voluntary donation of one euro per visitor. This is a earmarked donation that visitors can give when purchasing adult, family, group tickets, as well as adult and family annual passes.
In doing so, they are supporting six nature conservation projects, two of which are in Hesse. However, the money is simply collected at the cash register – the zoo does not ask for approval for the donation. Rather, anyone who wants to save the euro must expressly declare this. This is also what it says on the website: “Anyone who does not want to pay the nature conservation euro can inform the zoo cashier before buying a ticket. The contribution will then not be calculated.” This also applies to the purchase of tickets in the online shop.

“There were never any problems because of it,” says Christine Kurrle, spokeswoman for the zoo. Until now. Now a customer has expressed irritation because he was not asked if he would like to donate the nature conservation euro. The customer finds that it is not possible for him to expressly point out the refusal himself.
Zoo spokeswoman Kurrle points out that you can get information in advance. Information about the modalities and purpose of the donation is provided both on the Internet and in the zoo’s cash desk itself. “There are indications there that the euro is additional,” she says.
