Zubin Mehta and his wife Nancy donate a million dollars to the Teatro del Maggio

by time news

Zubin Mehta and his wife Nancy donated a million dollars to the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, for the new auditorium named after the Indian conductor, principal conductor of Maggio since 1985 and then honorary director for life since 2006. The donation was presented in Florence in the new hall of the theater in the presence of the Mehta family, the superintendent Alexander Pereira, and the mayor Dario Nardella.

My wife was so moved when she learned of the title of the hall – explained Zubin Mehta -, that she wanted to donate part of our shares in America, worth one million dollars, to the Theater, so that the superintendent and the mayor they can use as they see fit. My wife and I are very happy indeed, and my wife hopes that this will inspire other Italians and foreigners to donate to Italy and Florence, and the Government to give the opportunity to deduct these sums from taxes as happens in America. I think it is certainly the largest donation made to this room – added Pereira -, but I think it is one of the largest private donations made to an institution in Italy, and certainly by an orchestra conductor who thanks a institution like that. a gesture so generous and wonderful, that it makes us understand how great this man is.
