Zurich, what to see in 2 days between art and culture

by time news

Autumn is the ideal time to organize a holiday supplement in anticipation of winter. It is the period when the temperatures are still mild, the air is fresh and crisp, not yet cold, perfect for spending quiet moments, with less traffic and less crowds.

A surprising, contemporary city, to live in complete relaxation for an unusual and stimulating weekend is Zurich, which can be reached from Milan in just 3 and a half hours by train or an hour by plane. Overlooking the lake of the same name, crossed by the Limmat river, Zurich offers a wide choice of trendy clubs and restaurants, particularly in the converted old industrial districts, prestigious boutiques and a vibrant nightlife, all nestled in the heart of the Alps.

In this splendid city, some of the time of the weekend, with cultured curiosity, must be dedicated to art.

In fact, the city offers, next to the magnificent churches, extraordinary museums that cannot be missed! Among all, the must-see is Kunsthaus, which boasts one of the most important art collections in Europe, where the relics and art objects on display retrace the entire history of humanity, from antiquity to the present day.

Museum of Design

Great news is the new wing of the museum, a new building designed by British star architect David Chipperfield. Officially inaugurated on October 9th, it joins with the current site dating back to 1910 through an underground tunnel of seventy meters, to form the largest art museum in Switzerland. In 2022 it will host a large retrospective on Niki de Saint Phalle, as well as exhibits on Yoko Ono, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Federico Fellini and the sculptor Aristide Maillol. The entire program of exhibitions is published on the Kunsthaus website.

Art, however, will not only involve the places usually dedicated to it in the city, but will also enter with its creative force in reality a symbol of tourism: hotels. For the advent period and for Christmas 2021, in fact, ten selected hotels, including the renowned Hotel Storchen and the stylish 25hours Hotel in Langstrasse, will make available one of their rooms that will be transformed and “decorated” by different artists, taking the city of Zurich itself as an inspiration.
