As part of the 20th edition of the National Week of Culture, the minister in charge of culture, Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, and the one in charge of sports, Boubakar Savadogo, gave the starting signal for wrestling and shooting competitions at the arc this Monday, May 1, 2023.
129 is the total number of athletes taking part in traditional sports competitions such as wrestling and archery. In the first category, 95 came from 12 regions to embark on the conquest of the first prize at this 20th edition of the SNC. For the archery category, 34 archers from 8 regions will be on the quest for the supreme title.
“It should be noted that this year, we have recorded a lot of defections. Out of 150 expected we have 95 who are there and for archers out of 54 we have 34. This is because the playoffs have been held since 2019. You will agree with me that some have aged and some women have joined married life”and said the regional director of sport of Houet, Gilbert Lompo.
Despite this situation, he hinted that the sports traditions of this 20th edition of the National Culture Week are awaited with great enthusiasm. On the reasons for this confidence, the minister underlined that the mobilization of the public and the preparation of the athletes are the testimonies.
For his part, the minister in charge of sports Boubakar Savadogo explained that wrestling and archery are part of the habits of people. “In these two disciplines, Burkina Faso is beginning to emerge on the continental level “, he implied. It is therefore very logical that he appreciated these competitions which allow athletes, according to his words, to compete and promote the discipline.
