After the fire which ravaged almost half of the Mwanga high school in Kolwezi, in the province of Lualaba, the provincial government specifies that there were no deaths. Victims, 132 cases in total, are currently in different health structures for care.

“At this stage, the balance sheet is 132 cases of victims, 8 of which are with a life prognosis that has begun but has stabilized at the level of the health care structures. We note that there are no fatalities at this stage. We have not had any burns, but we have cases of physical trauma following various falls, but also psychological,” said Espérant Kabambi, provincial minister of health in Lualaba province.

And to continue:

“We emphasize here that there are also cases of acute and chronic post-traumatic stress requiring short-term psychological care and other cases that will require medical or surgical care in the short, medium and long term. term “.

Daouda Kapenda, provincial minister of the interior and security in Lualaba explained that there is indeed hope for the end of the school year at Mwanga high school.

“We deplore the fact that at least 50% of the building has been damaged and the state will be able to help the Catholic Church to rebuild what has been lost. Nevertheless, there is hope that the school year is not over for Mwanga High School, there are always ways because there are some premises that can always be used while waiting for the reconstruction of the damaged part “, he said after visiting the hospitals where the high school girls are interned.

In his report published this same Monday after the fire at Mwanga high school, the provincial director of the EPST in Lualaba specifies that there was major damage which affected this Catholic school. As for material damage, he speaks of a burnt-out library, the boarding school, 5 secondary school classrooms and 4 primary school ones burned.

An investigation is open to determine the origin of this fire, added Daouda Kapenda, provincial minister of the interior and security in Lualaba.
