At just 17 years old, Indian Dommaraju Gukesh is playing for the world chess title. If he were successful, he would become the record holder.
The 17-year-old Indian Dommaraju Gukesh has made history and is the youngest player to claim the title at the World Chess Championship. Gukesh won the Candidates Tournament in Toronto, Canada and can therefore compete against the Chinese defending champion Ding Liren in the upcoming final tournament.
“I was in the right mood throughout the event,” said Gukesh, who became a grandmaster at the age of 12, after his triumph on Sunday: “I don’t really care about all these records, but it’s a nice thing, To be able to say that. At the moment I’m especially happy that I won the tournament.”
