1st Africa-Americas UN-Tourism Summit: Highlighting, in the Dominican Republic, Morocco’s assets and its commitment to the South-South partnership

Speaking at this summit (October 2-5), the Moroccan ambassador to Santo Domingo, Hicham Dahane, first highlighted the important contribution of the vectors of education, culture, investment and innovation, in the dynamics of the tourism sector, sustainable development and co-growth.

Also recalling the crucial role of tourism as a lever for strengthening multidimensional relations between Africa and the Americas, the diplomat underlined the inclusion of said vectors in Morocco’s tourism policies and strategies, in accordance with the vision of HM the King Mohammed VI, with a view to strengthening the competitiveness, attractiveness and resilience of key sectors of the Moroccan economy.

During this panel under the theme: “Building opportunities between Africa and the Americas”, the ambassador also highlighted the bilateral cooperation programs in the tourism field developed by Morocco with many countries, in particular of Africa and the Caribbean, in terms of training and capacity building, within the framework of effective and pragmatic south-south cooperation.

Placed under the theme: “Promoting South-South cooperation through investment, education, culture, creative industries and innovation”, this 1st summit co-organized by the Dominican Republic and UN Tourism, brought together the member states of the regional commissions for the Americas and Africa within the UN Tourism agency.

Four panels were organized on this occasion on the themes: Cultural connections between Africa and the Americas, potential for tourism investments for and between Africa and the Americas, education and innovation and young talents.

The summit was marked by the adoption of a Punta Cana declaration at the end of the high-level ministerial segment, which calls for a transformative partnership between Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, in favor of promotion of innovation, education, investment and culture, with a view to creating new prospects for mutual growth, cooperation and sustainable development, within the framework of south-south cooperation.
