Great news for the 2022 World Cup, which will take place between November and December in Qatar. All the matches of the most important football competition on a global level will be broadcast unencrypted on Rai and in streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The e-commerce giant recently also won the rights for 16 exclusive matches per season of the Champions League for the three-year period 2021-2024.

World 2022, TV rights: what we will see on Rai and Amazon

According to reports from Calcio e Finanza, Rai has secured the B1 package, which includes 25 free-to-air games with first choice rights. It is therefore practically a certainty that on state television we will see all the matches of the national team led by Roberto Mancini, who travels with full points in the qualifying round.

Amazon instead bought the B2 package, which includes 36 games to be streamed for a fee. Both Jeff Bezos’ platform and Rai will broadcast the semifinals and final of the 2022 World Cup, for a total of 28 and 36 games respectively. The two broadcasters obtained the TV rights for a sum of 190 million euros. Mediaset’s offer would have stopped at 110 million. As for the qualifying round, the last matches will be played between 1, 4 and 16 November, while the play-offs for last places at the 2022 World Cup are scheduled for March next year.
