In a shocking turn of events, it seems like 2023 has become the year of death for many video games. A slew of developers have announced the demise of their games, with a staggering 60 titles already lined up for public execution.
The list of doomed games keeps growing at an alarming rate, with updates being added on a regular basis. As of the most recent update on November 28th, 2023, 60 games have already met their end, with no signs of slowing down.
The first update on March 8th added 12 more games to the growing list, bringing the total to 27. Just a couple of months later, on May 3rd, another 9 games were brought to light, increasing the tally to 36. A month after that, on June 9th, 7 more games were laid to rest, pushing the count to 43.
The grim march towards an ever-increasing number of dead games continued with the next update on August 4th, which added 11 more games to the list, bringing the total to 54. And as of the latest update on November 28th, 6 more games have been added to the growing memorial, bringing the count to a staggering 60.
It’s hard to comprehend the sheer number of video games that have been taken offline, will no longer receive updates, and/or are scheduled to be delisted in 2023. With the year drawing to a close, the gaming community can’t help but wonder if more titles will face a similar fate before the year is out.
The loss of these games is certainly a blow to the gaming industry, and players are left mourning the untimely demise of their favorite titles. As we pay our respects to these fallen games, we can’t help but hope that 2024 will bring better fortunes for the gaming world.
