The UN Security Council responded to Israel‘s decision to declare UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres persona non grata, expressing full support for its leader.
This was reported by the Alexey Zheleznov Telegram channel.
In a statement distributed to media representatives, it was noted that cessation of interaction with the Secretary General or with the organization as a whole is inappropriate, especially against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the Middle East. UN member countries were also urged not to take steps that could undermine the work of the Secretary General and his office.
The Israeli decision comes after Guterres made one-sided statements about Iran’s attack on Israel, without unequivocally condemning Iran’s actions. Additionally, Israel expressed dissatisfaction that Guterres did not condemn the massacre carried out by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023 in the south of the country.
Then the terrorists killed more than 1,200 people and kidnapped over two hundred, many of whom are still held captive in Gaza.
Earlier, Kursor reported that Israel received a blow from the Russian permanent representative to the UN because Guterres was declared persona non grata.
This is not the only harsh statement made by a Russian diplomat recently against the Jewish state.
“Cursor” also wrote that Katz declared Guterres persona non grata.
Guterres refused to unequivocally condemn Iran’s attack on Israel.
