After the civil servants, the Paris garbage collectors are in turn threatening to strike during the Olympic Games. The CGT union filed a strike notice from May 14 to 16, from May 22 to 24 and from July 1 to September 8, i.e. during the entire Olympic period.

This notice concerns personnel from the Department of Cleanliness and Water (DPE), including garbage collectors, and Municipal Automobile Transport (TAM DILT).

Less than three months before the Games, the CGT FTD NEEA union organization is putting pressure on the City of Paris to obtain financial compensation. From main demandsthe union is demanding a bonus of 1,900 euros and a monthly increase of 400 euros in the remuneration of all staff.

“We have no intention of spoiling these Olympics”

Added to this are specific requests, depending on the trades. For example, garbage collectors operating small machines, responsible for cleaning the streets of the capital, must also see their monthly allowance increase by 300 euros and the index point (which serves as the basis for calculating remuneration) revalued.

“We have no intention of spoiling these Olympics. It is a lever of pressure, but if there is pressure, it is because politics does not meet the demands of employees,” explains Christophe Farinet, general secretary of the CGT FTD NEEA, to RMC.

The union invites the town hall to receive them to negotiate. “If the Parisian executive hears and negotiates with the CGT, there will be no problem,” warns Christophe Farinet.

At the national level, the CGT has already filed notices in the three public functions (State, local authorities and hospital) from April 15 to September 15. The first public service union is calling in particular for “long-term recruitment, salary compensation for professional constraints generated by the Games, (…) rights to leave, chosen teleworking and disconnection”.
