Optimistic view of the future: Fresenius CEO Michael Sen Image: dpa

A wave of sales will soon begin in the Bad Homburg DAX group. CEO Sen wants to get rid of five “assets” – and thereby reduce the debt burden. Not everyone likes the new strategy.

Last week Fresenius boss Michael Sen was in Boston. There was a lot to talk about. The dialysis subsidiary Fresenius Medical Care has its main business in America, and it has recently been the focus of the Bad Homburg healthcare company’s new strategy. Sen is in the process of deconsolidating the subsidiary, which has been in crisis in the past, i.e. separating it from the Fresenius business on the balance sheet. FMC should only be an investment company for Fresenius – this ultimately means that the DAX group can sell the previously closely linked 32 percent share more easily. A new FMC supervisory board discussed the future strategy for three whole days. The company said it was “intense, but good.”

They are adjectives that Michael Sen loves – and which, in his opinion, very appropriately characterize his almost one-year term at the helm of the Bad Homburg company. There is likely to be agreement about the term “intensive”, but less about “good”. Sen himself knows that he cannot have all 317,000 employees on his side. The changes that he announced in a video and in a FAZ interview shortly after taking office on October 1, 2022 are too drastic.
