AUSTURIA, July 29, 2025 – Renewing your driver’s license involves a straightforward process that can be navigated online or in person, requiring a few key documents and a modest fee.
Securing Your Spot: The First Step to a New License
Before diving into the renewal process, securing an appointment is crucial. You can book your slot through the NVi Internet Portal, by dialing the Alo 199 Call Center, or by using the NVI mobile application. Planning ahead is wise, as walk-in services might involve longer wait times.
Gathering Your Credentials for a Smooth Renewal
To renew your driver’s license, you’ll need to prepare several essential items. This includes your old driver’s license, a fee of 15 pounds (composed of a 13-pound valuable paper fee and a 2-pound foundation share), which can be paid via the Revenue Administration website or through contracted banks. Additionally, a driver’s health report from an authorized institution, valid for two years, is required. Lastly, one biometric photograph, taken within the last six months, must be presented.
Navigating the Application Process
With all your documents in order, you can proceed to any population directorate to submit your application. While appointments are recommended to minimize waiting, walk-in applications are also accepted. The key is to have your prepared documents ready for submission.
Temporary Validity and Personalization
Once your application is processed, the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs typically personalizes new driver’s licenses within two working days. During this personalization and delivery period, you can continue to drive using a temporary driver’s license. These temporary documents are available from the Population Directorates or through the E-Government system.
Receiving Your New Driver’s License
The newly personalized driver’s license is dispatched via PTT. Delivery is made to the address you provided during your application, or to one of two designated individuals. Delivery times vary: expect your new license within one day in 56 provinces, two days in other provinces, and four days in districts.
