Romanians to Enjoy Extended Holiday Breaks This Winter
Romanians will benefit from two separate mini-vacations at the close of 2025,offering a welcome respite during the winter months. The extended breaks, anchored by national holidays, provide opportunities for travel adn family time.
Romanians will first enjoy a three-day weekend beginning November 29th. Romania‘s National Day, celebrated annually on December 1st, falls on a Monday in 2025. According to Article 139 of the Labor Code, December 1st is a mandated day off for all employees in Romania. This positioning creates a consecutive three-day break, encompassing Saturday, November 29th, Sunday, November 30th, and Monday, December 1st. This holiday commemorates the unification of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina with the Kingdom of Romania in 1918, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. The three-day weekend is designed to allow citizens to participate in national celebrations and spend time with family.
Christmas Holiday Extension
Beyond the National Day break, a longer holiday period awaits at the end of December. The first and second days of Christmas, December 25th and 26th, are officially recognized as non-working days.In 2025, these days fall on a Thursday and Friday, respectively. This alignment results in a four-day mini-holiday for Romanians, stretching from Thursday, December 25th, through Sunday, December 28th, inclusive. “This provides a significant chance for both domestic and international travel,” a senior official stated. The extended Christmas break is intended to encourage families to gather and enjoy the festive season, while also stimulating economic activity in the tourism sector.
These extended breaks are expected to provide a boost to the tourism sector within Romania and neighboring countries. Hotels, restaurants, and transportation services are anticipating increased demand, and are preparing to accommodate the influx of travelers.the Romanian government hopes this will contribute to economic growth during the typically slower winter months.
The combination of these two holiday periods offers Romanians a substantial amount of downtime during the traditionally quiet winter season.
