University of Texas to Host Major Handball Tournament in November 2025
The University of Texas at Austin will play host to a significant handball tournament from November 14-16, 2025, at Gregory Gym. The event promises competitive matches and a vibrant atmosphere for players and fans alike.
The tournament will feature a diverse range of events for both men and women, catering to various skill levels. Men’s competition includes qualifiers for players in the 40/50/60 age brackets, alongside singles divisions for A, B, C, and novice players, as well as open and A doubles. Women’s events encompass qualifiers, A singles, B singles, B doubles, novice singles, and a 120+ doubles division for players aged 55 and over.
All participants are guaranteed a minimum of two matches throughout the tournament. Tournament directors retain the flexibility to combine events as needed to optimize the competition schedule. Players are limited to entering a maximum of two events.
Entry fees vary based on student status. The standard fee is $75 for the first event and $10 for a second. Students attending UT Austin or out-of-state institutions can participate for free, while in-state students will pay $30 for their first event and $10 for any additional entries. Organizers welcome additional donations to help offset tournament costs and support the UT Handball team. The entry fee includes a souvenir T-shirt, as well as meals throughout the weekend – dinner on Friday, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday.
Interested players must register by Monday, November 10th. Registration can be completed online via R2Sports, or by contacting tournament director Andy Shen directly via email or text with their name, phone number, desired division(s), and any scheduling constraints.
Payment can be submitted through UT’s payment portal or made upon arrival at the tournament desk. Due to a recent university policy change, payment will no longer be accepted through R2Sports at the time of registration. Players seeking a refund must notify organizers of their cancellation by noon on Tuesday, November 7th. Starting times will be communicated to all participants via email by noon on Thursday, November 9th.
Safety is a priority, and all players are required to wear eye guards. Participants are also responsible for bringing their own towels and locks. A key element of sportsmanship at the tournament will be the requirement for players to referee after losing a match. The official ball for the tournament will be the USHA Red 21, with the exception of Women’s B, Women’s Novice, and Men’s Novice divisions, which will utilize the USHA White 21.
For any questions or concerns, players can contact Andy Shen, the Tournament Director, at (832) 245-6180.
