Nevada’s Top Young Vocalists Converge for all-State Choir Rehearsals

Nevada’s most talented high school singers have gathered to participate in intensive rehearsals as part of the annual all-state choirs. The program, a cornerstone of music education in the state, provides a unique opportunity for students to hone their skills under the guidance of esteemed guest conductors. These rehearsals, spanning over two days, represent the culmination of a competitive audition process open to students from across Nevada.
A Highly Competitive Audition Process
Students from every corner of Nevada recently participated in rigorous auditions to earn a coveted spot in the prestigious all-state choirs. The selection process is known for its high standards, attracting the most dedicated and gifted young vocalists in the state. According to one participant, “The audition was challenging, but incredibly rewarding. Knowing you’ve been selected among so many talented singers is a real honor.”
This year, over 300 students auditioned for approximately 150 spots across the various all-state ensembles – including the SATB choir, SSAA choir, and TTBB choir. The audition process involved prepared vocal pieces, sight-reading, and vocal range assessments. Auditions were held in regional locations throughout Nevada in late October and early November, judged by a panel of experienced music educators. The selected students represent over 60 different high schools across the state.
Intensive Rehearsals with Leading Conductors
The selected students are now immersed in intensive rehearsals led by renowned guest conductors, Dr. Emily Carter (SATB Choir) and Mr. David Lee (SSAA/TTBB Choirs).Dr. Carter, a professor of choral music at the University of arizona, and Mr. Lee, a nationally recognized high school choir director from Texas, bring a wealth of experience and expertise, providing invaluable mentorship to the young musicians. The focus of these rehearsals is not only on refining vocal technique but also on fostering a collaborative and artistic environment.
The two-day rehearsal schedule is designed to push the students to their limits, preparing them for future performances. participants are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment and dedication throughout the process. Rehearsals include sectional work,full choir blending,and performance practice sessions. Students are also receiving coaching on musicality, phrasing, and stage presence.
