“Spain is working with Portugal and Morocco on a strong bid for the 2030 World Cup,” the interim Spanish prime minister said on social network X after a meeting Tuesday in New York with the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino.
This candidacy is described as an “ambitious project that transmits positive values,” the Spanish official noted.
“We work with a clear idea: football is a global sport with the power to transmit positive social values,” he assured.
HM King Mohammed VI announced Morocco’s joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup on March 14 in Kigali. The announcement came during the presentation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Excellence Award for 2022.
This unprecedented joint candidacy will bridge the gap between Africa and Europe, the north and south of the Mediterranean, and the African, Arab, and Euro-Mediterranean worlds, the Sovereign stated.
The Sovereign also emphasized that this candidacy will be about bringing together the best elements of both sides, showcasing a fusion of genius, creativity, experience, and resources.
The Spain-Morocco-Portugal Tripartite Commission for the bid to host the 2030 World Cup held its first meeting in Madrid last weekend. The next working meeting is scheduled for October 4 in Rabat, with the presidents of the three federations in attendance.
