Chennai: Awards were given to films including `Kita’ and `Kasadathapara’ which were chosen as the best films at the Chennai International Film Festival.

The 20th Chennai International Film Festival organized by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) started on the 15th and concluded yesterday. 102 films from 51 countries were screened. The closing day program was held last evening at Satyam Theatre. Director Bhagyaraj attended the event as a special guest.

12 films participated in the Tamil category of the film festival competition namely Aadhaar, Night Shadow, Final Page, Mamanithan, Kargi, Kasadathapara, Nakshatram Nagaram, Kita, Beginning, Code, Baboon, Yuddha Kandam. Awards were presented under two categories in total. The awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Soundtrack were given to ‘Omoi Vili’ in the Short Films category. Loganathan was awarded the best actor award for the short film Alagi.

In the films category, the first prize was won by ‘Kida’ and the second prize by ‘Kasadathapara’. The Best Actor Awards went to Vijay Sethupathi (Mamanithan) and Poo Ramu (Kita). Special Jury Award for ‘Shadow of Night’ and Special Certificate Award for ‘Aadhaar’.

Awards were given to Best Sound Recorder Anthony PJ Reuben (Moving Stars), Best Cinematographer CS Prem (Beginning), Cinematographer Arthur Wilson (Shadow of Night) and Best Actress Sai Pallavi (Kargi).

Director Bharathiraja has been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award and the award will be presented to him soon, ICAF said.

Actor Rajesh, President of MGR Film College, Sivan Kannan, President of Indo Cine Appreciation, General Secretary E. Thangaraj, Producer Kyar Ullitta and others participated in the function.
