24-Hour Dengue Complaint Hotline Introduced in Northern Province
The Northern Province Director of Health Services, T. Sathyamurthy, announced today that a new 24-hour telephone service has been introduced to address complaints related to dengue in the Northern Province.
Speaking at a media conference held at the Northern Province Health Workshop in Jaffna Farm area, Sathyamurthy emphasized the importance of this new initiative in combating the increasing cases of dengue in the region.
Members of the public can now make appeals directly by calling the phone number 0761799901 or through WhatsApp. Complaints will be addressed immediately, Sathyamurthy assured.
The announcement comes as dengue fever continues to spread in the northern province, with approximately 3100 people affected by the disease this year. Sathyamurthy urged the public to exercise caution, especially in the Jaffna district where dengue incidence has intensified.
He also highlighted the concerning rise in dengue cases over the past month, with two deaths reported – one in Jaffna and the other in Valvettithurai. The affected areas include Jaffna, Nallur, Koppai, Sandilippai, Parutthurai, and Karavetti. Sathyamurthy emphasized the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and seeking immediate medical attention if someone develops a fever.
The introduction of the 24-hour hotline is a crucial step in addressing the dengue outbreak in the Northern Province and underscores the commitment of health officials to combatting this public health threat.
