/ Millions of employees in major international companies are threatened with layoffs from their jobs this year, due to financial crises facing their companies and also due to artificial intelligence solutions as an alternative to humans.

According to Reuters, hundreds of major companies around the world have already begun a wave of layoffs and job abolitions, for financial reasons and others related to replacing employees with artificial intelligence.

A survey issued by PricewaterhouseCoopers showed the consensus of more than 4,700 executives around the world in more than 10 economic sectors active in 105 countries to take actual steps to eliminate millions of jobs.

According to the survey, 25% of major companies in various sectors are preparing to eliminate about 5% of their jobs due to artificial intelligence during the current year, and 32% of heads of companies active in media and entertainment are preparing to eliminate jobs during the current year.

28% of business owners in the banking and financial services sector said that they had begun preparing to eliminate jobs, and the transportation and logistics sector is expected to witness the elimination of a quarter of current jobs, and the same percentage appears in the communications sector.

According to the results of the survey, 22% of car company bosses are planning to cut jobs during the current year, while the percentage is 21% in the energy sector, and the same in the industrial sector.

The Wall Street Journal recently published a list of the most prominent companies that announced plans to cut jobs in their branches around the world.

Since the end of last year, companies have begun announcing a reduction in the number of employees and focusing on efficiency, amid their commitment to exert more effort with fewer resources, after a year of widespread layoffs.

The Swedish communications equipment company “Ericsson” said that it plans to eliminate 1,200 jobs in the country, out of a total number of its employees of approximately 100,000 employees, until the end of the year.

The list of companies that have begun or are preparing to lay off a percentage of their workers includes various sectors, such as: software, the automobile industry, e-commerce, and beauty, and among the largest companies concerned with these procedures are: “Google,” “Microsoft,” “Expedia,” and the sports shoe company. Nike, Amazon, BlackRock, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.
