The approach gives Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu some wiggle room against radical members of his coalition who are demanding tougher action. However, it remains to be seen whether Netanyahu will take up this offer.

According to Ali Vaez, director of the Iran project at the International Crisis Group, Netanyahu understands that Biden will not be able to exert significant pressure on him ahead of the US presidential elections.

Vaez also noted that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East could play into the hands of both Trump and Netanyahu, prolonging the period of active actions and reducing the influence of American diplomacy in the region.
