French President Emmanuel Macron reminded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the importance of respecting UN resolutions, emphasizing that Israel was created thanks to one such resolution.

This was reported by the Alexey Zheleznov Telegram channel.

Macron made this statement at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. According to several participants in the meeting, the French President noted that Israel has no right to ignore decisions taken by the UN.

Macron’s remarks came amid a worsening situation in southern Lebanon, where, according to media reports, the IDF recently attacked units of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission.

Cursor previously reported that Macron explained his call for an arms embargo on Israel.

French President Emmanuel Macron is again pushing for an arms embargo on Israel, saying stopping the export of weapons used in Gaza and Lebanon is the only way to stop fighting in those regions.

“This is the only instrument that can put an end to this, and everyone knows it,” Macron said at a summit of European and Mediterranean leaders in Cyprus.

Macron also accused Israel of deliberately attacking UN peacekeeping forces operating in southern Lebanon. He said it was “absolutely unacceptable” that UN peacekeepers in Lebanon were “deliberately being targeted” by the IDF.

He recalled that the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), numbering about 10,000 peacekeepers, must prevent weapons and militants from entering southern Lebanon. At the same time, UNIFIL reported that Israeli Defense Forces fired at three peacekeeper positions.

The mission said in a statement that “two peacekeepers were wounded this morning after an IDF Merkava tank opened fire on the UNIFIL headquarters observation tower in Naqoura, hitting it directly.”

The Israeli side claims that the shelling was caused by an “imminent threat” to Israeli soldiers stationed near the UN post, resulting in injuries to two peacekeepers.
