Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant explained the reasons for Iran‘s recent attack on Israel.
This was reported by the Telegram channel “Today in Israel”.
According to him, Tehran took this step due to the serious weakening of its allies in the region – Hamas and Hezbollah. Galant noted that over the past year, Israel has almost completely destroyed Hamas’s ability to operate as an organization, and Hezbollah’s influence has also weakened significantly.
The minister stressed that Iran has invested billions in support of these groups for decades, viewing them as its key assets. However, now that both organizations have lost much of their power, Iran was forced to act directly, using its forces from its own territory.
Let us recall that on the evening of October 1, 2024, Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel, attacking targets throughout the country with about 200 ballistic missiles.
This operation, called “True Promise 2”, was a response to the liquidation of two prominent leaders: Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The first hit was recorded in a residential building in Tel Aviv, which caused alarm throughout the country and led to a temporary shutdown of Ben Gurion Airport.
According to Reuters, the order to launch the missiles was given personally by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It is noteworthy that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to New York Times sources, was not aware of the plans for the missile strike.
The attack in Tel Aviv injured two civilians, and in Judea and Samaria in Jericho a Palestinian worker from the Gaza Strip was killed. One of the missiles also landed in an open area without causing serious damage.

Putin sees Russia’s role in Iran as an opportunity to strengthen its influence, similar to what was done in Syria.
