3 Signs Your iPhone Has Fake Parts

by time news

In November 2021, Apple launched its Self-Service Repair Program, giving Apple customers access to more than 200 manuals, parts and tools they need to service and repair their iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series phones.
Customers with technical knowledge can obtain parts and tools directly from Apple or authorized independent resellers (via Apple). And since it’s now easier than ever to replace iPhone components, you may be concerned if the parts you purchased are fake. Or, if you bought a pre-owned iPhone, you might also want to make sure it isn’t serviced with non-original Apple parts.

Check maintenance log
Before iOS 15.2, the iPhone would only show popup warnings if it had fake Apple parts. But in newer versions you only see messages like “Unable to verify that the iPhone has an original Apple display” or “Original Apple Camera”. But with newer updates, the iPhone keeps a detailed log of parts and service history. The repair history will only appear if your iPhone has been repaired or serviced. To check this, you will need:

I open settings.
Go to generic.
Click on About.
Locate the Parts and Maintenance History section.

When an iPhone has original parts, each component will be listed as genuine Apple, along with details such as the date it was installed. In the case of repairs made using counterfeit Apple parts, poor service, or unexpected hardware behavior, the component will be marked as “Unknown Part” with a warning icon. This is a sign that the part is fake.

Check the liquid contact indicator
Apple ships every iPhone made since 2006 with liquid contact indicators, and the indicators are behind the SIM card tray on the latest iPhones (but they were in the headphone jack on older iPhones). The liquid contact indicator is usually silver or white in appearance, and once exposed to liquid or water, it will turn bright red, indicating water damage to the device.

Ask Apple to check the device
One way you can make sure your iPhone doesn’t contain fake parts is by visiting the Apple Store. Apple Support or an Apple Certified Assistant will fully assess your iPhone. And their evaluation should reveal whether your iPhone was serviced or repaired with genuine or counterfeit Apple parts. To have your iPhone tested for fake parts, submit an application for evaluation on the Apple Store. Go to the Get Support page, select the iPhone from the list of devices, and click the “Find a Location” card. The card will locate an authorized repair shop near you, according to the Slash Gear website.
