London ∙ 3,000 visas allowed for young professionals from India to work in the UK each year. The crucial announcement came after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.

Today, the UK India Young Professionals Scheme becomes a reality, following on from the UK-India Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement agreed last year. The British Prime Minister’s Office also announced that young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who are graduates will get the benefit of the visa for two years. India will be the first country to benefit under this scheme.

Last year, the British government signed the UK-India Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement with the Indian government to ensure better cooperation on migration. India had expressed its displeasure against British Home Secretary Suella Braverman’s earlier statements regarding the Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMP) with India.

Last year, the two countries launched the UK-India Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, with the aim of leveraging the skills and vast market of Indian professionals for Britain’s economic development. But there were concerns that the government led by Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman might tighten immigration laws. In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 summit, the British Prime Minister assured to ensure employment opportunities for Indians in the UK.
