More than 30 media organizations in Europe have sued the American corporation Google, demanding damages amounting to about €2.1 billion, Politico newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the lawsuit concerns Google’s digital advertising policies. “If Google had not abused its dominant position, media companies could have received significantly more advertising revenue and paid less for advertising services,” the publication quotes an excerpt from the plaintiffs’ statement.

Axel Springer, Schibsted, DPG Media and other media companies from 17 European countries filed a lawsuit in the Netherlands.

In June 2023, the European Commission accused Google of non-compliance with antitrust laws in the advertising business. The EC has in recent years sanctioned multibillion-dollar fines to leading US digital corporations, including Microsoft, Google and Amazon, for violating EU digital competition rules.
