Poochakkal ∙ Demolition of Kapiko Resort in Nediyathuru, Panavalli may begin soon. In the phased demolition, two villas will be demolished first. Government land encroached by the resort on Monday Collector V.R. Krishna Teja had taken over and established the board. The Collector has acquired the remaining 2.9397 hectares of the total 7.0212 hectares of land held by the resort. In January 2020, the Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of the resort built in violation of the Coastal Management Act. On the basis of this, the authorities decided to proceed with demolition.

The 35900 square feet building complex is to be demolished. It has 54 villas and related facilities including swimming pools. 2 villas will be demolished first and rest later. Demolition is at the expense of the resort owners. It is reported that the owners have given a contract to carry the demolished goods. The demolition debris will be removed under the direction of the resort owners. It has been suggested not to pollute the environment by falling into the lake.

The master plan for phased demolition has been submitted by the resort owners to Panavalli Panchayat Secretary and Collector. Once this is verified and given permission, the demolition will begin. Yesterday, a meeting was held at the Collectorate in this regard under the leadership of the Collector. Revenue, Pollution Control Board, Panchayat and Disaster Management Department officials and representatives of resort owners participated.

A committee of Panchayat-Village officials headed by the Collector and Sub-Collector Suraj Shaji as Nodal Officer will supervise the demolition process. The preparation of the video Mahasar started yesterday regarding the complete look of the resort and the information about the goods there. It will be completed today. Panavalli Village Officer K. Bindu, Panchayat President Dhanya Santosh, Ward Member G. Dhanesh Kumar and others led the way.
