Bangkok: The Myanmar military government has rejected the request of organizations including the UN and executed four people, including a former MP.

In our neighboring country, Myanmar, the military staged a revolution and took over the government led by Aung San Suu Kyi’s Democratic National League in 2021. At that time, the protests against the military regime were crushed with an iron hand. Following this, the former MP of the National League Party, Pyo Zeya Thaw, was arrested on charges of having carried out the bomb blasts.

Similarly, pro-democracy activist Kyaw Min Yu was arrested for attacking soldiers and spreading anti-government propaganda on social media. Along with these, the military court sentenced the four Hala Myo Aung and Aung Dura Zaw to death for murdering a woman who had spied for the army. The UN and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations led by Vietnam urged the Myanmar government to reduce their imprisonment to life imprisonment.

The military government refused to accept it and executed the death sentence on all four people yesterday. In Myanmar, in 1976, a student leader named Salai Tin Mang Oo was executed by the then military government for political crimes. Subsequently, after 46 years, four people have been hanged in Myanmar. This has been condemned by various organizations including the UN and countries including Vietnam.
