The positive performance of Rhodes in marine tourism continues. From January to date, there have been 32 cruise ship calls carrying a total of 31,614 passengers. Yesterday, the “Celebrity Infinity” sailed into the tourist port with a total of 2,042 passengers, while until the end of April there are still five more cruise ship arrivals.
Arrivals will begin to increase from May. A total of 40 cruise ships are expected in Rhodes next month, 49 in June and 52 in July. However, the best month for sea tourism in Rhodes will be October with 62 scheduled cruise ship calls.
By the end of the year, 400 cruise ship approaches will have taken place. There were reportedly very few cancellations of approaches, attributed to the ongoing war situation in the Middle East. Specifically, cruise ship approaches departing from the port of Haifa were cancelled.
In any case, maritime tourism in Rhodes has been going through a steadily rising year in recent years and it is estimated that if any unpleasant contingencies are avoided this season, the sign will be positive again.
“Marine tourism started with timid steps and from May the rates will increase. We will enter a period of greater and more intense movement. Of course, it is not only the attendance that matters, but also the quality of the tourists. We believe that during the high tourist season, the economic impact of maritime tourism on the market will be greater,” said the president of the Association of Shopkeepers of the Medieval City, Mr. Vassilis Dontas.

It is considered highly possible that Rhodes will surpass last year’s positive performance in marine tourism. The season ended last year with a 24% increase in passenger arrivals (around 540,000 passengers in 2023 versus 363,000 in 2022). Last year was considered one of the best of the last decade and it is possible that 2024 will be the new milestone year for maritime tourism in Rhodes, as the measure of the seven-day express visa for Turkish nationals is expected to contribute to the large increase in arrivals by day boats through the coasts of the neighboring country.
