With internet becoming an integral part of 60% of Indians’ lives from dawn to dusk, the auction for 5G spectrum airwaves starts today. 5G networks are said to be 10 times faster than 4G and 30 times faster than 3G in India.
The 5G auction will reportedly include 72 GHz of spectrum. For India, the 4G speed is said to average 9.31 Mbps, while the 5G technology has a maximum download speed of 7Gbps and an upload speed of 3Gbps.
Four of India’s leading telecom companies Jio, Airtel, Vodafone and Adani are participating in today’s auction. The winning company will have the right to use 5G technology for the next decade.
Sources in the Central Telecom Department said that the auction will be completed by the end of July and the announcement will be made in September this year. With the $23 billion 5G spectrum auction starting today, India is set to usher in a new era in technology.
Major players like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Adani Group are making efforts to increase their market share. The four companies have submitted a total of US$ 2.68 billion as attractive money deposits (EMD). 5G technology has been developed by IIT Chennai, Center for Wireless Technology Sirmiku and IIT Hyderabad.
In case of 5G spectrum usage, remote medical service, distance education, improvement of video communication, drone based agricultural monitoring, 5G phones and robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other technologies including security of cities, energy saving, environmental management, disaster management and accuracy in various issues.
