Five people died in Ohio after a group attempted to rescue a struggling swimmer in the Scioto River, authorities confirmed Monday.
The incident unfolded near the Scioto River in Powell, a Columbus suburb, after one individual entered the water for a swim. That’s when the tragedy started to occur,
Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said at a news conference, describing how others joined the water to assist. A motorist spotted a frightened child from the group running along a nearby road and called 911, according to Balzer.
The Tragic Chain of Events
