Then a beautiful woman emerged from Lord Vishnu’s concubine. She raised an omg at the monster. The fire that arose at that ongara sound consumed the monster. When Vishnu woke up, he saw the woman and asked, ‘Who are you? What happened?’ She humbly replied, ‘I am from them. She said that the monster was destroyed by my sound. Vishnu was pleased to hear this,
“I name you Ekadasi. This didti on which you appeared is considered very auspicious. On that day, I will bestow all wealth on those who worship Me with fasting, and at the end I will also bestow the position of Vaikunda.” From that day Ekadasi tithi became the auspicious day to worship Perumal. As Ekadasi is a productive day, Ekadasi in the month of Margazhi is celebrated as Utpanna Ekadasi.
Then, “Lord! On this day, Varapirai Ekadasi in the month of Margazhi, open the gates of heaven to us and grant us the rank of Vaikunda to those who come to their temples and worship you.” Maha Vishnu gave a boon that the same would happen. As a testimony of this, even today, Vaigunda Vaipava opening ceremony is held in Perumal temples on Varapira Ekadasi every March month. It is believed that on this day, if one enters through the gate of heaven and sees Perumala as Vaikundavasan, then moksha is assured.
