Tirupati വി Rupture in the largest reservoir in Andhra Pradesh. The rupture was found at four places in the Royal Slope Reservoir located at Ramachandrapuram in Tirupati district. It was also found that water was leaking through it. This reservoir is over 500 years old.
District Collector Hari Narayanan, police, revenue officials and Irrigation Department officials inspected the site. The district collector said that the reservoir was in danger. With the confirmation of cracks and leaks, 20 nearby villages were immediately evacuated. People were evacuated by the Air Force and the Disaster Management Force.
‘Currently the reservoir has 0.9 TMC of water. The total storage capacity is 0.6 TMC. There is a strong current. This is the first time so much water has flowed into the reservoir. So be careful. ‘ The collector said.
Expert opinion has been sought to prevent leakage. Tirupati district has received heavy rainfall over the last four days. Many villages were left stranded as roads were damaged in the floods. At least 40 people have been killed in floods in Andhra Pradesh so far.
