7 out of 10 Armenian boxers will fight for medals in Bulgaria

The 66th international boxing tournament “Stranja” continues in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, where Armenia is represented by 10 boxers. Yesterday, 4 of our 6 boxers defeated their opponents, reports the press service of the Armenian Boxing Federation.

69 kg Vladimir Margaryan celebrated his 2nd consecutive victory, who again competing with the athlete representing Bulgaria, did not give his opponent any chance. Artur Hovhannisyan of 49 kg also celebrated a convincing victory, who won over Irvin Brandan from Ireland. With the unanimous decision of the referees, Samvel Barseghyan of 60 kg also won, whose rival was Jaim Munoz from Panama. Arman Hovhikyan, the best Armenian athlete of the season 2014, also celebrated victory in his first fight, defeating Bulgaria’s Anton Dmitrov.

Unfortunately, Hovhannes Bachkov, who performed in the 64 kg weight category, and Narek Manasyan, who performed in the 81 kg weight category, lost. Hovhannes Bachkov lost to Lorenzo Stomayor and Narek Manasyan to Radoslav Pantalev. Today, the ¼ final fights will take place in the “Stranja” tournament.

According to Aram Manukyan, press secretary of the Armenian Boxing Federation, 7 of our 10 boxers will fight for a ticket to the semi-finals and at the same time for a medal.

49 kg Artur Hovhannisyan will fight against Great Britain’s Josep Maposh Dzikamani. Koryun Soghomonyan’s opponent in the 52 kg category is the Englishman Jack Bateson, who is the strongest athlete in England in this weight category. 56 kg Henrik Mokoyan will fight for a ticket to the semi-finals with Kazakh Zabolat Tilegenul. Samvel Barseghyan’s competitor in the 60 kg category is our compatriot Eric Agatelyan representing the Czech Republic. 69 kg Vladimir Margaryan will try to overcome the ban of Israil Madrimov representing Uzbekistan in his 3rd fight of this tournament. 75 kg Arman Hovhikyan will fight with Ukrainian Valery Kharlamov, and 91 kg Henrik Sargsyan’s opponent will be Bulgarian Christian Dmitrov.
