The MLAs, led by rebel leader Eknath Shinde, were staying at the hotel. As of Thursday evening, 41 MLAs were with Shinde. Some MPs are also reported to be present.

The rebels arrived at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati from Surat in Gujarat on Wednesday morning. The BJP government in Assam has set up heavy security here. The national media reported that 70 rooms had been booked for seven days for MLAs. According to sources, the total cost of booking the rooms is Rs 56 lakh. In addition, there is a daily expenditure of Rs 8 lakh for food and other necessities.

The hotel has a total of 196 rooms. Hotel authorities do not accept any new bookings, except for 70 rooms booked for MLAs and other groups. The banquet hall is temporarily closed. The restaurant at the hotel is also off-limits to residents. Information on other costs of the ‘operation’, including chartered flights, has not been released.

Eknath Shinde wants the Shiv Sena to end ties with the Congress and the NCP and re-establish its alliance with the BJP firmly on the Hindutva agenda. Attempts to persuade the rebels continue, but to no avail. Uddhav Thackeray has announced his intention to resign as Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief after it was confirmed that a majority of MLAs had resigned.
