The Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Traffic and Operations Affairs, Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh, announced the start of work and coordination with the UAE to collect traffic violations between the two countries as a first step, to be followed in the future by the rest of the countries of the Cooperation Council, calling on parliamentarians to expedite the adoption of an amendment to the traffic violations law, to reduce traffic accidents. and reduce the death rate.
Al-Sayegh confirmed, during a press conference held yesterday morning, on the occasion of the Unified Gulf Traffic Week under the slogan “Your Life is a Trust”, that most traffic transactions are currently conducted electronically, as part of the Ministry of Interior’s plan to facilitate the procedures for completing transactions for citizens and residents.
At the beginning of the conference, Al-Sayegh touched on the mechanism of work of the Organizing Committee for the activities of the unified Gulf Traffic Week, stressing that the traffic man was found to serve the citizen and the resident, and that the Traffic Week is for raising awareness, not for issuing violations.
Gulf cooperation
For his part, the Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic, Major General Youssef Al-Khadda, confirmed that the Gulf Traffic Week aims to exchange experiences among the GCC countries in the traffic sector, spread traffic awareness, inform citizens of traffic achievements, and discuss and evaluate traffic work.

And Al-Khadda indicated, during his response to the journalists’ questions, that the current traffic violations law is not valid, as it has been approved for decades, and now the conditions and roads have changed and the number of cars is increasing, so the new traffic law that is being discussed in the corridors of the National Assembly must be approved, to reduce accidents and deaths, Stressing that all Gulf countries have increased penalties and traffic violations, and the result has been a decrease in the death rate and traffic accidents.
He explained that there is a joint committee between the traffic sector, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Kuwait Municipality to monitor shops, factories, and stores that promote the exhausts of violating cars, indicating that several stores, factories, and shops that sell these exhausts were recently raided, and closed, to reduce the phenomenon of annoying sounds that come out of the exhausts, pointing out We do not accept serious violations, as legal measures are taken against the perpetrators by impounding the car.
He revealed that the statistics indicated that the total traffic violations amounted to 4,237,454, while the value of traffic violations amounted to 73,576,375 dinars.

He pointed out that the statistics showed that the number of valid and computer-registered driving licenses amounted to 1,655,408 driving licenses, while the number of computer-registered vehicles amounted to 2,422,223 vehicles, while the total number of registered vehicle transactions amounted to 552,478 transactions.
The statistics showed a decrease in the rate of traffic accidents for the year 2022, as the number reached 68 thousand and 770 accidents, and in 2018 the number of accidents reached 98 thousand and 329 accidents.

He said that the traffic sector is keen to develop and provide the sector with modern mechanisms and devices, as 200 new traffic patrols have been introduced to the service, bringing the number of traffic patrols to 800, pointing out that 300 new motorcycles have been introduced to the service, bringing the number of traffic bikes operating in the service to 399 bikes Mirdif: 66 electronic boards for variable messages were also supplied, and 200 traffic monitoring cameras were supplied and distributed on the roads.
Al-Khadda pointed out that the sixth generation cameras, which were recently installed, recorded 3,394 safety belt violations and 2,083 violations of using a mobile phone while driving during the period from January 1 to February 27.

Major General Al-Khadda gave an explanation of the traffic statistics for the year 2022, during which he confirmed that the death rate as a result of traffic accidents decreased from previous years, as the number of deaths for the past year 2022 reached 322 cases, while it reached 323 in 2021.
He stated that in 2020 the number of deaths reached 352, while in 2019 it reached 334 deaths, and in 2018 the number of deaths reached 403, which means that the number is declining.
4 million violations and seizure of 5 thousand vehicles
Al-Khadda mentioned that the number of direct violations recorded during the year 2022 amounted to one million and 384 thousand and 842 violations, while the number of indirect violations amounted to two million and 852 thousand and 612 violations, indicating that the number of speeding violations amounted to two million and 653 thousand and 5 violations.
And he indicated that the number of violations of exceeding the red light reached more than 236,000, pointing out that the total number of impounded vehicles amounted to 5,076 vehicles, in addition to the confiscation of 798 motorcycles.
