The Professional Football League’s (LFP) ninth annual “1TEAM” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report reveals significant strides in sustainability and social impact across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, demonstrating a growing commitment to responsible football.
The LFP published its latest “1TEAM” CSR report on November 18, 2025, detailing the societal and environmental actions undertaken by the league and its clubs during the 2024-2025 season. This report, building on an initiative launched in 2016, marks a pivotal moment with the full integration of the “1TEAM” brand – a symbol of a collective ambition to leverage the power of professional football for positive change and a more inclusive society.
For the past two seasons, the Club License has placed increased emphasis on CSR performance, now accounting for 10% of a club’s overall score (1,000 points out of 10,000). This strategic shift underscores a clear intention to integrate CSR as a core pillar of professional football, alongside traditional performance metrics.
The results are compelling. Between the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons, Ligue 1 McDonald’s clubs saw an average performance increase from 55.9% to 79% of available CSR points, while Ligue 2 BKT clubs improved from 49.17% to 64%. This substantial growth illustrates an accelerating commitment to responsible initiatives throughout French professional football.
A Four-Pillar Approach to Responsible Football
The LFP and its clubs have focused their efforts around four key pillars: inclusiveness, solidarity, health, and sustainability.
1TEAM for Inclusive Football: Combating Discrimination
The LFP continues its firm stance against all forms of discrimination, collaborating with recognized associations to implement and expand its strategy. During the 2024-2025 season, 33 awareness workshops were conducted across 16 clubs in partnership with LICRA, Foot Ensemble, the Foundation for Inclusive Sport, and the UNFP. These workshops, targeting players, management, and supporters, directly addressed issues of discrimination within the sport. Since the program’s inception, a total of 122 workshops have been held in 43 clubs.
Beyond internal education, the LFP actively engages the public through the annual “Let’s get rid of discrimination” campaign. This year’s campaign featured two key events uniting players, referees, and clubs, with special event jerseys raising funds for partner organizations. The accompanying #PlayAgainstDiscrimination digital campaign generated 15 million impressions and over 550,000 engagements.
Recognizing the urgent need to address gender-based violence, the LFP, alongside clubs and associations like Colosse aux Pieds d’Argile, the Foundation for Inclusive Sport, and Her Game Too, formed a working group. This group developed and implemented awareness workshops and operational procedures to combat sexism and sexual violence in stadiums, with plans for league-wide implementation.
The innovative WO=MAN campaign further amplified the message of equality, replacing player names on jerseys with “WO=MAN” event printing, accompanied by a robust digital and media campaign.
1TEAM for Solidarity Football: Supporting Vital Causes
The LFP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting critical causes during the 2024-2025 season, notably continuing its decade-long partnership with Bleuet de France. Honoring the victims of war and attacks, the Cornflower flower was prominently displayed on jerseys, armbands, and jackets, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. This initiative also provided employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through an ESAT in Allier. The combined efforts of players, coaches, supporters, and a jersey auction generated significant funds for the association.
Furthermore, the LFP and French professional football united to protect children, partnering with the CNAPE through initiatives like “Train Like a Pro,” the Child Defenders Tournament, and dedicated championship days. These efforts raise awareness of children’s rights and promote the confidential helpline 119 for children in danger.
1TEAM for Health in Action: Promoting Well-being
As sporting organizations, the LFP and its clubs are dedicated to promoting physical activity, preventative care, and overall well-being. Aligned with the Great National Cause 2024, the LFP collaborated with other professional sports leagues to encourage daily exercise, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in preventing premature death. In October 2024, a unified message – “30 minutes a day, it’s simple, it feels good and it can change everything” – was relayed across stadiums and digital platforms in football, basketball, cycling, handball, rugby, and volleyball competitions.
The LFP and the French Hospital Federation (FHF) continued their annual Caregivers Tournament at the AS Saint-Étienne Sports Center, providing nearly 150 healthcare workers from across France with the opportunity to participate in a friendly competition in June 2025.
1TEAM for Sustainable Football: Reducing Environmental Impact
The LFP, in collaboration with Sami, introduced a standardized methodology in 2025 for assessing the carbon footprint of professional football clubs, aligning with the GHG Protocol and UEFA standards. Since 2022, 27 clubs have completed carbon assessments, with 13 utilizing the new methodology this season.
The league has also integrated the Mob’Sport program from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, engaging eight pilot clubs in developing sustainable transportation solutions for spectators. The insights gained from these pilot programs will be shared across all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs.
A key innovation within the Club License is the introduction of a non-financial reporting platform, developed in partnership with Zei. This centralized tool allows clubs to harmonize their CSR performance monitoring, providing an objective measurement of the environmental footprint of French professional football. Initial data from over 20 stadiums reveals an average annual consumption of 3,693 MWh of electricity and 9,719 m³ of water per stadium, with an average waste production of 168 tonnes, of which 48% is recycled. This data will serve as a baseline for establishing impact reduction targets and transparently tracking progress.
By uniting these four pillars, 1TEAM embodies the ambition of a football that acts, unites, and prepares for the future.
