Kalachand Chan, director of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, has said that there are three basic reasons for the self-burial of Joshimath city.

Accordingly, the city was built on the ruins of an earthquake and landslide a century ago.
Secondly, the region of Uttarakhand is located in an earthquake-prone zone.
Thirdly, climate change, water flowing underground has also reduced the strength of stones over time.
The Chief Minister visited in person
It has been reported that Chief Minister Pushkar Thami has personally visited and inspected the city which has reached such a dangerous level. In this case, it has been reported that the Prime Minister’s Office of India has called the Prime Minister for an urgent consultation in this regard.

Based on that, PM Modi’s principal secretary PK Mishra, chaired the meeting and it has been informed that many important officials such as cabinet secretary, senior officers of the central government and members of the National Disaster Management Authority will participate in this meeting.
Meanwhile, Joshimath City High Officials and Uttarakhand State High Officials participated in this meeting through video. It is also reported that Indian Prime Minister Modi held a telephone consultation with Chief Minister Pushkar Thami.
