According to the report, it was published that “over the years, the network of the Iranian intelligence services has expanded to include civilian surveillance. The special military unit of the Quds Revolutionary Guards also has a significant role, which, in addition to extraterritorial military operations, specializes in obtaining intelligence information.”

According to the report, foreign spy services find Austria an “attractive” country to operate on its territory because of the “very low threat of punishment”. The report noted that the Austrian intelligence services have weak intelligence gathering powers, unlike most European countries. It is also claimed that Austria is also a hotbed for espionage activity because of its “good geopolitical situation” and the location of several international organizations in the country.

It was also announced that espionage in Austria takes place under the guise of diplomacy in foreign embassies and consulates, when spies impersonate foreign citizens and also operate in cultural centers, press agencies, airlines or other business places. Due to all these, the report stated in the country that “Austria is a paradise for espionage”.
