An ancient synagogue in Ukraine was hit by a Russian rocket

A historic building that was used as an ancient synagogue in the city of Golaypol in the Zaporizhia region was hit by a Russian rocket last week and the building was damaged.

The synagogue was established over 100 years ago – in 1909 and about two years ago special stands were placed outside the building with information about the history of the synagogue and the contribution of the Jews to the development of the city.

The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Rabbi Moshe Reuven Essman, in response to a Russian missile hitting the synagogue: “On behalf of the Jewish community in Ukraine, I strongly condemn the attack by the Russian army on the ancient synagogue in the city of Goleipol.”

“In a normative world it is accepted that holy places are off limits, the Russians broke this convention as well. I expect the world leaders to strongly condemn the criminal act,” demanded Rabbi Assman.
