Senegalese guitarist Hervé Samb returns with a new and sixth album titled Jolof. The inventor of “Jazz-Sabar” swings his creativity around the musical traditions of his country. An inspired and jubilant record.

The incredible expressiveness of this guitarist has been heard alongside the greatest: Oumou Sangaré, Salif Keïta, Jimmy Cliff, Omar Pène and Marcus Miller. His arrangements have adorned the albums of Toni Green or Lisa Simone – the daughter of Nina Simone.

Instrumentalist, arranger, but also producer and composer, he has the full range of talents. He is also an experimenter, an inventor, a pioneer of a unique style, jazz-sabar, the product of a singular fusion between the Senegalese tradition and the swinging freedoms of American jazz.

Herve Samb is the guest of VMDN. It will be this Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Trianon, in Paris, as part of the “Au fil des Voix” festival. He comes today to present his sixth album, Jolofreleased under the Euleuk Vision label.

Also to be heard on RFI Musique: Hervé Samb’s Jazz Sabar is embellished.
