On the second day of the mini tour of Europe, the Ukrainian President was received in Brussels like a hero. Volodymyr Zelensky assured that by fighting Moscow he is defending “the European house”.
A historic occasion. An exceptional summit. A special day. These were some of the expressions of European leaders to define Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Brussels.
This visit has high symbolism. Volodymyr Zelensky participated for the first time in person in a European summit and in a plenary session of the European Parliament. A trip that made it possible to show solidarity with Ukraine on the part of the 27 and the European institutions that will continue to support the country.
In Parliament, President Roberta Metsola stated that “Ukraine is Europe and the future of its nation lies in the European Union”adding that the EU should give Ukraine a “membership process as soon as possible” e, “As a next step, provide the long-range systems and jets necessary to protect the freedom that many have taken for granted”.
Before that, before MEPs, Volodymyr Zelensky praised Europe, a continent anchored in rules and values, a place where Ukraine is firmly at home. And he said that Russia is trying to annihilate not only sovereign Ukraine, but also the European “way of life”.
Zelensky urged Europe and Ukraine to walk together and define a common European future. But it is still unclear when Ukraine will receive the green light to start EU membership negotiations.
