The burning chapel of director Carlos Saura, who died yesterday, will be installed next Monday from at 12 noon at the headquarters of the Film Academy, in Madrid, and remain open until eight in the evening.
This was indicated by the Film Academy, who was also in charge of informing yesterday of the death of the film director at 91 years old, the eve of receiving the Goya de Honor at the gala that will take place tonight in Seville. The Andalusian Auditorium in Seville will pay homage at the 37th edition of the Goya Awards to the memory of an “unrepeatable creator”.
His latest film, ‘The walls speak’, premiered on Friday of last week, which shows, according to the Academy, his “tireless activity” and his “love for the trade until the last moment”.
The Board of Directors of the Academy agreed last October to recognize with the Goya of Honor 2023 to Carlos Saura (Huesca, 1932) for “his extensive and very personal creative contribution to the history of Spanish cinema from the late 50s to today”.
The filmmaker has directed numerous films such as ‘Los golfos’, ‘La caza’, ‘Peppermint Frapp’, ‘Ana y los lobos’, ‘Cousin Anglica’, ‘Mama’s 100th birthday’, ‘Hurry, hurry’‘Carmen’, ‘Flamenco, flamenco’, ‘Sevillanas’‘El sptimo da’, ‘I Don Giovanni’ y ‘Goya in Bordeaux’among other.
During his career he has achieved international recognition such as the silver bear for best director at the Berlin International Film Festival for ‘The Hunt’ or ‘Peppermint Frapp’ or the Grand Jury Special Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for ‘Cousin Angelica’. In addition, he won the Goya for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘Oh, Carmela!’ and the Gold Medal of the Academy in the year 1992.
