One year after the war in Ukraine: the Jews of the Jewish communities in the country were informed that a large American company decided to donate thousands of pairs of glasses • Expert opticians will tour the communities and make adjustments and measurements

The Jews of Ukraine, who during this period mark one year since the war with Russia, were informed these days that a large optics company in the USA decided to donate glasses to them.

The incessant war has brought many Jews in Ukraine into the circle of poverty, and many of them are faced with abject hardship and the reduction of expenses to the necessary minimum.

The news about the large donation of glasses is meant to make it easier for Jewish families all over Ukraine. “The operation will be able to make it easier for families to get glasses that match their needs – and so they can improve their vision without spending money,” says Simcha Levanhartz, who coordinates the project on behalf of JRNU, Chabad’s rescue center in Ukraine.

Carrying out the project in the field is somewhat complex, due to the need to personally adjust the appropriate glasses for each person. For this reason, the rabbis of the communities and Chabad representatives were asked to send the operation and registration forms to all the Jews of the communities. Every week, a team of specialist opticians will visit a different community, and perform adjustments and tests for those in need of new glasses.

The Jewish communities are looking into cooperation with local humanitarian organizations, with the aim of also helping all citizens of Ukraine and providing new glasses to those in need.
