Taliban hunt down and kill former officials; The U.S. wants to end it

Kabul: The United States and its allies have called on the Taliban to stop searching and killing former members of the Afghan security forces. The 22 countries demanded in a joint statement that security officials in the previous government be respected and not harassed.

The joint statement said they were concerned about reports of repeated killings and enforced disappearances. The statement, signed by the UK and the European Union, called for a full investigation into all cases of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.

Earlier this week, Human Rights Watch reported that more than 100 former Afghan government officials had been executed and abducted since the Taliban took control of the country. The killing of 47 members of the Afghan security forces who surrendered or were captured by the Taliban between August 15 and October 31 has also been reported.
