“There should be no doubt: our support for Ukraine will never waverNATO will not be divided and we will not get tired,” he insisted.

In response to the Russian president, who accused the United States and NATO of wanting to destroy his country, Biden was blunt: “The United States and the nations of Europe do not seek to control or destroy Russia. The West does not plan to attack Russia“.

The United States had spoken out against Putin’s announcement through its Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who described it as “very irresponsible.”

“Russia’s announcement that it is suspending its participation in New Start it is very disappointing and irresponsibleBlinken told reporters at the US embassy in Athens. “But obviously we remain ready at any time to talk to Russia about strategic arms limitation,” he added.

It was Putin who this Tuesday further strained the relationship between the two countries by announcing the suspension of compliance by his country with START III or New START.

He also stressed that Russia must be ready to resume nuclear weapons tests if the United States does the same.

In his speech, Putin maintained that the Kremlin will achieve its objectives in Ukraine “step by step”, while describing the moment the country is experiencing as “difficult”.

He also accused the West of wanting to deal Russia a “strategic defeat” in Ukraine and end it “once and for all.” And he accused the United States and NATO of “rapidly deploying their secret military bases and biological laboratories near the borders” of Russia, of “dominating the theater of future military operations with maneuvers,” and of preparing an “enslaved Ukraine for a great war.”

The 2010 treaty is the last one between Washington and Moscow to prevent a nuclear escalation, but has weakened in recent yearswith accusations from the United States that Russia was not complying.
