Josep Borrell, said this Friday (24th) that the China
should look for the
president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky,
just as he did with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin,
if you want peace in the region.
Borrell, who participates in several meetings at the United Nations (UN), was asked about the document with the Chinese opinion on the conflict and reinforced that the text “is not a peace plan, but a document of intentions in which Beijing illustrates all their positions that are known from the beginning”.
“To be a peace plan, it needs a text that can be applied. And to be credible, it needs to be shared by both parties: China should go to Kiev and talk to Zelensky as it talked to Putin. on the same level the aggressor and the attacked”, he added.
The Chinese document has 12 points and addresses various aspects of the war, calling for “dialogue” between the two sides to end hostilities, which complete one year on Friday. Allied with Russia, Beijing has never publicly condemned Vladimir Putin’s government for invading the neighboring country, but it also does not supply weapons and military equipment to Moscow.
After the publication, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that “China has started talking about Ukraine and this is not a bad sign. But we need to understand, after the words, what are the steps that will follow.”
One year of war
This Friday (24), the war between Russia and Ukraine completes one year. The conflict left 42,200 dead, 56,700 injured and another 15,000 missing, according to data from the Reuters Agency. On the other hand, Kiev managed to avoid Russian domination over its lands and, now, maintains the dispute over the Donbass region, taken over by Putin’s Army.
